Theatre Management is a combination of art and science. Theatre is a very creative and time-consuming process and there is a lot of planning involved before each show. To be successful in this position requires skill, tact, and wisdom.

A theatre manager, usually known as an artistic director, or plan holder, is essentially the director of a theatre. They are in charge of all artistic, logistical, production, financial, and marketing functions of the theatre. These people in the theatre management profession must be able to make critical decisions and see visions of how the theatre will be presented and run. This person is in charge of the lives of countless theatre lovers who depend on their artistic genius each and every day. It can be a rewarding and very stressful position. To become a theatre manager, you must have an ability to manage creativity and interpersonal relationships as well.

If you are a theatre manager you will definitely need some sort of certification or licensing. You will need to obtain a Master’s Degree in Theatre or a Bachelor’s Degree in theatre management. Both degrees will give you the skills you need to be a successful theatre manager. There are many different areas you can focus your degree towards. You may want to study theatre marketing, theatre promotion, theatre tour planning and scheduling, theatre law, theatre studies, technical theatre training, or any other area that allows you to apply your knowledge to real world situations.

You will also want to do your own research about what it takes to be a theatre manager. You can attend a theatre related trade school, you can read books, watch videos, or do your own research online. No matter how you get the information you need, you should start by researching credentials of past theatre managers. This will give you a good idea of what the job entails and help you determine if it is right for you.

Once you know what the theatre management system entails, then you can start applying your skills and knowledge to the theatre community. As a theatre manager you will be the first point of call when it comes to booking and purchasing theatre tickets. You will also be responsible for finding a company that will produce the plays for the production. You will work closely with the company to make sure that everything goes according to plan. You will be involved in every step of the production, right from the stage layout to the costumes and set design.

When someone is considering applying for a theatre management position, they should do some research to find out if they would enjoy it. They should enjoy interacting with people and making sure that a production runs smoothly. They should enjoy math, science, and business as well as enjoy working with actors and actresses. If you meet all these requirements, then you have a good shot at being a theatre manager.
